This is the second record about the topic "How to originate online videos" for your website. Online video is not new, but lately videos are used much more for branding and selling products. However, many smaller websites cannot afford to spend thousands of dollars on creating online videos and this record explains that video productions for online purposes can be successfully done on a small budget, too.
The Camera
I use a small 12 Mega Pixel Panasonic Digital Snapshot Camera to record my videos (9 at Costco). It surely works great and the picture quality is amazing. So, you do not need to spend thousands of dollars to make an online video. The newer snapshot digital cameras can make great videos for online purposes where you do not need super-high resolution. You can try cheap webcams as well or the build-in camera in your newer laptop computer so you have one, but in general these cameras have a low resolution setup and do not have the significant mega pixels to record good quality videos.
Software
I spent a tiny over 0 on software to make my videos. I bought the Pinnacle Studio software and I bought Camtasia from TechSmith to do screen capture videos. You can get lower quality software for free or just a few bucks to get started, but I think if you are dedicated to the project, buy the right tools from the start as it will pay off very speedily in my opinion. The software mentioned here allows pro video recordings and pro video cutting. The learning curve is fairly easy to administrate and I think it took me about 2-3 hours to get going so that I felt comfortable with the software I had purchased. With each additional video that I recorded I gained confidence and skills.
The Location
I use my home office to record my videos. Clean up the area and make it look nice and professional. If you do not have a home office, film exterior but be prepared to re-record the voice section inside the house in case wind and other noise make the sound frightful on the exterior recordings. The software packages mentioned above allow you to modify the video and the sound afterwards. Pick a nice location like a park with a large grass area/open space in the back. When you record yourself you will be the center of the action with nothing else distracting the viewer's attention.
Conclusion
Online videos do not have to be high-tech or super expensive to work. Sometimes the low-tech impression might even sell better. Experiment and start out with informational videos first to learn the ropes and to get more experienced with the tools you are using. Ask friends and family for their feedback on your videos. Do not take feedback personally. Even George Clooney was not born as a movie star - he had to learn his acting skills, too and then exquisite them over time. Video recordings for websites are a great way to growth sales and can get you a large advantage compared to competitors who are not doing it and rather mail an additional one set of flyers via snail mail.
